About
The Ministry
In
2002, the Government decided to have a separate Ministry
of Transport, Works and Energy to specifically look after
the management of policy, administration and regulatory
activities of all modes of transport. This was formed
on the basis that transportation was considered as an
indispensable element in enhancing Fiji's economic prosperity.
It also recognises that "transport" facilitates
economic trade in all service sectors and essentially
is one of the key contributors towards the social and
economic development of our developing country.
This
new Ministry amalgamates six (6) portfolios
The
main goal of the Ministry is to "provide an integrated
transport system that is safe, efficient, affordable,
accessible to all and environmentally sustainable".
Legal
Notice No. 84 of 2002 completes the legal framework of
the Ministry's formation in naming the Honourable Minister
Josefa Vosanibola to be it's novel minister. The Public
Service Commission then followed suit in identifying it's
Head of Departments and other skeleton staff to facilitate
the new move.
Purpose
The
main purpose of the Ministry is to provide, facilitate
and to enable all services required by the public for
a smooth and an uninterrupted transportation system within
the country.
